A silicone remover is a specialised solvent formulated to dissolve and lift silicone based contaminants, which are a common cause of "fish eyes" or cratering in paint. Standard degreasers are effective for general grease and road film, but they may not be powerful enough to fully eliminate stubborn silicone residues. In a professional shop, a high quality silicone remover is the final, essential step to ensure the surface is pure.

After cleaning and drying the surface, perform a visual and tactile check. The area should look perfectly clean and feel smooth to the touch. In professional environments, you can also perform a "wetting test" with water on certain substrates; if the water spreads out in a uniform, even sheet, the surface is generally clean. If the water beads up, there is still contamination present that requires further cleaning.
