A High-Temperature Solution for Every Project

Our range of heat resistant paint is designed to provide long-lasting protection and a fresh new look to a wide variety of surfaces that get hot.

  • Automotive Restoration:

Perfect for engine blocks, exhaust manifolds, brake calipers, and other components in the engine bay that are subject to intense heat. Our high temperature paints provide a durable, factory-fresh look.
  • Home & DIY:

Ideal for revitalizing log burners, wood stoves, barbecues, fire pits, and radiators. It’s the perfect way to protect and beautify metal fixtures that operate at high temperatures.
  • Industrial and Commercial Use:

Provides essential protection for pipework, machinery, flues, and other industrial equipment that is exposed to extreme heat during operation.

Why Specialist Paint is Essential

Unlike standard paint, which quickly degrades, a paint that is heat resistant is engineered with advanced formulations that are designed to cure and harden when exposed to heat, creating a tough, protective barrier. This process ensures the coating maintains its colour and integrity, preventing rust and corrosion even under the most demanding thermal stress.

Our heat resistant aerosol paint selection makes these professional-grade coatings accessible to everyone. The easy-to-use aerosol can delivers a fine, even spray, allowing you to achieve a smooth, uniform finish with minimal effort, even on complex shapes like engine parts or intricate stove designs. The convenience of a heat resistant aerosol spray paint means there is no need for complex mixing or expensive spray equipment.

Choose the correct product for your project to ensure a lasting, high-performance finish. Browse our full range of heat resistant paint today and find the perfect solution for your high-temperature coating needs.

Heat Resistant Paint Frequently Asked Questions

What is heat resistant paint?

Heat resistant paint is a specialist protective coating engineered to withstand extremely high temperatures that would cause regular paint to fail instantly. Standard decorative paints will blister, crack, peel, and discolour when exposed to significant heat.

The secret to heat resistant paint lies in its formulation. It is typically made with silicone-based resins and heat-stable pigments. These components are designed to remain inert and stable at very high temperatures, creating a durable finish that protects the underlying metal.

It is the essential coating for surfaces that get extremely hot, including:

  • Log burners and wood-burning stoves
  • Fireplaces and fire surrounds
  • Barbecues (BBQs) and fire pits
  • Stove pipes and flues
  • Vehicle exhaust systems and engine components

These paints are rated to specific temperatures, often ranging from 600°C (1200°F) up to 1000°C (1800°F), so it's important to choose the right one for your project.

Does heat resistant paint actually work?

Yes, heat resistant paint works exceptionally well, but only if it is applied and cured correctly. When you see a heat-resistant finish that has failed, it is almost always due to poor surface preparation or an improper curing process.

The paint works by using its silicone-based resins to form a tough, thermally stable barrier. However, this barrier only achieves its full strength after it has been properly cured by heat.

Think of the application as a two-stage process:

  1. Application: The paint is applied and air-dries to a soft finish. At this stage, it can still be easily marked or scratched.
  2. Heat Curing: This is the crucial final step. When the painted item is heated for the first time, the high temperature triggers a chemical reaction that cross-links the silicone resins, hardening the paint into its final, incredibly durable state.

Without the final heat cure, the paint will never achieve its designed hardness and will not provide lasting protection.

How do you apply heat resistant paint?

Correct application and curing are absolutely essential for a successful and durable finish. Follow this step-by-step guide for professional results.

  1. Surface Preparation (The Most Important Stage):
  • The item must be completely cold.
  • Remove all loose rust, contaminants, and old, flaking paint using a wire brush and sandpaper. The goal is to get back to a clean, bare, stable metal surface.
  • Thoroughly degrease the surface using a solvent cleaner or panel wipe to remove any oils, grease, or residue. The surface must be perfectly clean for the paint to adhere.

2. Application:

  • Shake the aerosol can vigorously for at least two minutes.
  • Apply the paint in several light, thin coats from a distance of 10-12 inches. It is much better to apply 3 thin coats than 1 thick, heavy coat.
  • Allow 15-20 minutes of drying time between each coat.

3.Curing the Paint (The Crucial Final Step):

  • Allow the paint to air dry for at least a few hours until it is touch-dry.
  • The paint must now be cured by heat. Gradually raise the temperature of the item to around 200-250°C for 45-60 minutes. For a log burner, this means starting with a small kindling fire and slowly building it up.
  • During this first heat cycle, the paint will emit some non-toxic smoke and fumes as the resins cure. This is a normal part of the process. Ensure the area is well-ventilated.
  • Allow the item to cool down completely. The paint is now fully cured and has achieved its maximum hardness and heat resistance.
