Standard body fillers are designed to be rigid. When applied to a flexible plastic component, such as a bumper or trim piece, a rigid filler will fail to expand and contract with the substrate. This leads to cracking and delamination. A dedicated plastic car bumper filler contains resins that remain flexible, allowing the repair to move with the panel without failing.

Yes. Plastics can be notoriously difficult to bond to because of their low surface energy. Even when using a high quality filler for plastic, we strongly recommend applying a dedicated plastic adhesion promoter first. This creates a bridge between the synthetic surface and the filler, ensuring the repair does not flake or peel away during the sanding or painting process.

Once you have applied your bumper filler and sanded the bulk of the shape, you should switch to a fine grade plastic putty. This product is designed to fill the tiny sanding marks and pinholes that are invisible to the naked eye until the primer is applied. Applying this as a final layer ensures your surface is perfectly flat, providing a professional foundation for your paintwork.
